Hi, my name is Neil Brockington and I am the
Bloodstock Agent for A Trojan Bloodstock.
I am 43 years old and have loved horses since I was a young boy. I was
always fascinated with how big and beautiful they were, especially Racehorses
and I would often go horse riding with my brothers and go to the races with my
mother in Townsville, Brisbane & Darwin. When I was 11 years old
I became a strapper for a trainer in Darwin – Shane Clarke. I have kept a close
relationship with Shane and his wife Elizabeth (Liz) throughout my life. Shane has
taught me almost everything I know about Racehorses, including what to look for
in a horse and how much they are worth. I consider Shane a ‘Horse Whisperer’.
Shane is still training in Darwin and I respect him and his wealth of knowledge
very much.
Although I was not brought up in
a racehorse family, my Uncle Tom Hamilton trained and owned several racehorses
and worked at Eagle Farm throughout his life as a Carpenter as well. I also worked at Eagle Farm as a
part-time security person, looking after the horses as they checked in for race
day. Through this I met many trainers and became very interested in selling
these fine animals.
Ten years ago I started selling
racehorses from Brisbane, NSW and Victoria, to Townsville, Country Queensland,
Alice Springs and Darwin. Although I did this mainly as a hobby I got to know
the industry very well. I would also sell some of these horses to the Darwin
Turf Club and receive a free holiday to the Darwin Cup for my services. Through
this I associated with many affiliated trainers and owners. I now know that I
am ready to take on this role as a Bloodstock Agent professionally and I feel I
can pass on my wealth of knowledge and experience gained since I was a young
boy.
