We asked a few of our Leading Trainers  to answer a friendly questionnaire for your fun and enjoyment and here are their answers.

Favourite Sires?

Danehill; Danzero; Redoute's Choice

What do you look for when buying a horse?  E.g. Height, eyes, stance, colour, shine, sire, mare, price etc.

Three most favourite races to train a horse for if possible?

Doncaster; Golden Slipper and Cox Plate.

 What issues need addressing the most regarding your horse's safety in a race or prior?

Once the jockey is legged on the horse is in his hands.

What do horses love to eat?

Anything - oats, lucerne, corn etc.

From your experience, do you think horses need a little more time to get stronger before they race as a 2 year old? 

Pretty easy - precocious 2 year olds put themselves there whilst those that are not ready are in the paddock.

How often should a horse be raced?

As often as he or she is happy.  Horses usually let you know by their temperament if they have had enough.

How important do you consider barrier trials?

Extremely essential.

When you sell a car, the owner must have a roadworthy.  Do you think it's the owner's responsibility to have a vet check before the sale of their horse, including a scoping?

If you mean at the yearling sales - Well it is compulsory and Yes all horses are scoped etc.

Favourite colour/colours?

Blue; Pink and Orange

How important do you think it is for a Jockey to know the horse he or she is riding?

Very - that's why all the jockey's come to the track and ride work every morning.  I like them to get to know the horses intimately.

What do you look for when buying a horse?  E.g. Height, eyes, stance, colour, shine, sire, mare, price etc.

Sire and price you can afford.

Three most favourite races to train a horse for if possible?

Any race is good.

 What issues need addressing the most regarding your horse's safety in a race or prior?

 

What do horses love to eat?

Apart from normal feed any grass or lucern ect that is fresh.

From your experience, do you think horses need a little more time to get stronger before they race as a 2 year old? 

Majority would want longer, but there is exception to that rule.

How often should a horse be raced?

When racing - two to three weeks between runs.

How important do you consider barrier trials?

Very important for fitness.

When you sell a car, the owner must have a roadworthy.  Do you think it's the owner's responsibility to have a vet check before the sale of their horse, including a scoping?

No the buyers.

Favourite colour/colours?

Red and White.

How important do you think it is for a Jockey to know the horse he or she is riding?

Not important to the top Jockeys, but some horses do have habits that are good to know about.

Trevor Miller has been a Leading Trainer at the Sunshine Coast for many years and I would like to thank him for answering the questionnaire.  Everybody who has met Trevor would agree that not only is he a fantastic Trainer but he is a lovely person as well.  I am personally honoured to be associated with him.

The Cox Plate; The Golden Slipper and The Melbourne Cup.

Apples

Only when they are mature 2 year olds.

How often should a horse be raced?

It depends on the individual.

How important do you consider barrier trials?

They are an important educational tool.

When you sell a car, the owner must have a roadworthy.  Do you think it's the owner's responsibility to have a vet check before the sale of their horse, including a scoping?

I think it's up to the people who are buying the horse.

Favourite colour/colours?

Blue and white.

How important do you think it is for a Jockey to know the horse he or she is riding?

It's to an advantage.
